Closing Concert featuring Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and an Improvised Electronic Live Set

Never before had anyone dared to bring anything like this to the stage: an archaic ritual, ecstatic dances and this utterly unprecedented music! The Paris premiere of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, with Nijinsky’s choreography, ended in turmoil in 1913. Yet remarkably quickly, the scandal subsided, and The Rite of Spring ushered in the age of new music, the avant-garde and an entirely new sound culture.

To this day, Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring continues to captivate audiences with its sonic and rhythmic intensity, even when performed purely as an orchestral work. Our audience will be able to experience this power on this evening in the cleared-out Main Hall. Following the artistic interpretation of ancient human sacrificial rituals comes a celebration of life with Sebastian Mullaert and Circle of Live, in the form of a completely improvised electronic live set. The evening culminates in a collective flow beyond any formal structure, at the boundaries of electronic music improvisation.
