OUR PEOPLE VOL. II: Art Song Meets Voguing!

“Our People” are back with us – as glamorous as they were two years ago, but this time in the Main Hall. Indian-American pianist Kunal Lahiry and Grammy Award winner Freddie Ballentine, together with Berlin’s voguing community, create a multifaceted space for queerness, memory, resistance and self-assertion. What emerged in the New York ballrooms of Black and Latinx communities meets classical art song, spirituals, the AIDS Quilt Songbook and Nina Simone. The performers reveal themselves, their bodies and their personal stories. The audience is once again invited to be visible, too: loud, proud, tender, in their own form of expression. If desired, you can put the finishing touches to your look at the on-site make-up stations. Let’s queer up the concert hall!

As part of our series “Berlin – Music of the City at the Konzerthaus”, paths cross between musicians and ensembles from Berlin who bring together classical Western music from different centuries with styles that have all found a home in this city – from voguing to strings and synthesizers to jazz. Berlin Tracks aims to inspire, connect communities and invite audiences to follow the different musical paths that together make up the soundtrack of our city.
