A Star in the Musical Firmament

Anyone who can call an asteroid their namesake has long since reached the (musical) heavens. This is what happened to Philippe Jaroussky, who was granted this rare honor with asteroid 332183. For more than 20 years, the French singer has delighted audiences with sensitive interpretations and a rich palette of nuanced as well as dramatic expressive power. Rarely do technical perfection and expressive intensity blend as brilliantly as they do in Jaroussky.
Despite his dream career, the virtuoso, who has been appointed “Officier des Arts et des Lettres,” finds time for social engagement. Thus, he enables financially disadvantaged musical talents to receive training at the Académie Musicale, which he founded: “I want to help them develop their own idea of what they really want to do, and show them a path forward” (Concerti). In Berlin, together with the Ensemble Artaserse, he devotes himself to “his” Vivaldi, whose work has been, from the very beginning, like a jewel box filled with precious gems that are always waiting to be newly discovered.
