Salvatore Sciarrino is no stranger to the Berlin State Opera. Already five of his music theater works have been performed at the Schiller Theater between 2010 and 2016. Now he has written a new work, in his unmistakable musical language: crystal-clear sounds, fragile and at the same time insistent, as well as a highly artificial, richly nuanced textual treatment as well as references to past chapters of the history of music, which are illuminated in a contemporary context.
"Ti vedo, ti sento, mi perdo" ("See you, feel you, lose me") is subtitled "Waiting for Stradella." The fate of the then extremely prominent Italian composer Alessandro Stradella, who fell victim to a violent crime in 1682 under mysterious circumstances, is taken up. In the house of Cardinal Colonna in Baroque Rome, a singer, a writer, a musician, a choir and an instrumental ensemble await the arrival of the composer on stage. But in the end, instead of a promised new aria, she receives the news of Stradella's death. Until then, there will be plenty of reports and reflections on the artist, who is both quarrelsome and original - a legend even during his lifetime - and his music. Different perspectives and standards of value play a role, as well as thinking about human nature, about the body, the senses and the passion - and thus about what the art form of opera in theirs
